KARACHI: Former Chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board, Shahryar Khan said that Saeed Anwar started religious phenomenon whereas Inzimam reinforced it. The former Chairman of the board in his new book told about influence of religion over Pakistani Cricketers
Ex. Chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has revealed in his book ‘Cricket Cauldron’ said that religious trend was started by former opener Saeed Anwar. He said that it was always suspicious to see growing influence of religion. It looked like Saeed Anwar was told to spread religious preaching among teammates
Shahryar Khan said that such trends happened continuously where ever team travelled including Durban, Manchester, Birmingham, Cardiff and Bristol. He said that even ex. Coach of Pakistan Cricket Team complained about it and said that he is not able to plan because players are mostly busy in offering prayers
Woolmer also said to him that being involved in religion helped them to avoid night clubs and other non relative activities. Shahryar Khan also said that he also warned Inzimam not to highlight religion or else they would be included in banned outfits which could cause trouble
<p>In response to Shahryar Khan’s allegations, Inzimam said that it doesn’t take much time in prayers and his practice was never affected because of it. The link of religion with Pakistani cricketers is being wrongly portrayed. He said people like South Africa’s Hashim Amla and Australia’s Fawwad Ahmed are being respected in their countries for their love with Islam
